Brie Cushman

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to the new school year! My name is Mrs. Cushman and I will be your child’s teacher for the school year. At the end of the 2014-15 school year I got married, so this is a transition year for me. You will see different forms throughout the year with different information (my email address). My new last name is Cushman, but you might see my maiden name from time to time. Thank you in advance for bearing with us as we make the change. I graduated from Northern Arizona University, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. I am very excited to get the school year off and running. This will be my seventh year of teaching. Our year will be filled with community building, learning opportunities and fun! Our classroom environment will be full of support and encouragement. I truly enjoy teaching energetic and enthusiastic second graders.

Your child will bring a Homework Folder home on Monday – the bright orange one. Inside you will find some important notes, homework, and work your child has completed. Homework is sent home every Monday and is due on Fridays. I believe homework teaches responsibility and better prepares them for the work they will have in 3rd grade. On some days, the folder may be empty, but it will be sent home as part of the routine. Please check the Homework Folder nightly and return it to school the following day. If you have any notes for me, the Homework Folder is a great place to put them.
It is very important that your child is at school and on time every day! Second graders will receive approximately 10 grades on their first report card and over 50 grades by the end of the year. We will be learning new concepts daily, and I don’t want him/her to fall behind due to absences and tardiness.
Use your Classroom Dojo codes to check your student’s behavior daily. If you need a new code just contact me and I will send one home.

The school provides everything your child will need for his/her work. Please do not send extra supplies as they usually cause problems among the other students. There are a few items that we will need in our classroom. If you can help by donating any item(s) listed below, it would be greatly appreciated!

o Paper plates
o Zip-lock baggies (all sizes)
o Paper/plastic cups
o Plastic spoons/forks
o Hand sanitizer
o Kleenex
o Markers/ Colored Pencils
o Disinfectant wipes

I am excited to have the opportunity to work with your child. If you ever have questions or concerns, please contact me at school or email me. Thank you for an anticipated wonderful school year.
